Deep in love…22 stories deep

Israel has discovered another terror tunnel built by Hezbollah. Israel first became aware of this instrument of sheer hatred on its southern border, courtesy of Hamas in 2014. Thank G-d, Israel discovered these tunnels under the Israel-Gaza border before Hamas could use them. Their use would have been to unleash Hamas soldiers, dressed up as Israeli soldiers, killing or maiming any Israeli they saw. Needless to say, the Israeli military uniform disguise would greatly delay an Israeli response, as no Israeli would dream of opening fire on a fellow Israeli.

It seems that Hezbollah in the north — in Lebanon— indulged in “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,” copying Hamas tunnels. But whoever dreamed them up first, they reveal several truths:

• Neither Hamas nor Hezbollah wants peace with Israel. They want death to Israel.

• These tunnels are difficult to detect. Even though Israel believes it developed appropriate detection technology since 2014, the hard fact is that months ago Israel already thought it had detected all of Hezbollah’s tunnels. Not so. Now comes news of the deadliest, deepest tunnel of them all — 22 stories deep, built by Hezbollah. [See Page 1.]

• The longest, deepest terror tunnel (so far) must cost millions of dollars and thousands of hours. Whatever the precise number, it is all waste — money and time that could have improved people’s lives. In Gaza in particular, Hamas draws its subjects to the brink of starvation, not to mention unemployment, by diverting millions to terror tunnels.

Also diverted is concrete, which is intended for housing. Next time you hear about Israel oppressing the Palestinians by blockading its borders, think: concrete. One of the blockaded goods. Why? Hamas uses it for terror tunnels, not for housing.

The question remains: How many more terror tunnels are to be discovered?
