David Suson

David Lee Suson, past president of BMH-BJ, perpetual student of Torah, record-breaking bowler and devoted family man, passed away after a short illness, Feb. 25, 2019, at the age of 64.

Funeral services were Feb. 27 at BMH-BJ with Rabbi Yaakov Chaitovsky and Cantors Joel Lichterman and Martin Goldstein officiating. Burial took place at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Mr. Suson was born Aug. 20, 1954, in Denver to the late Harriet and Irwin Suson. He attended McMeen Elementary, Merrill Junior High and graduated from George Washington High.

As a teenager, he was active in USY at Rodef Shalom, his family’s synagogue.

He attended the University of Judaism in Los Angeles and Metro State College in Denver. In 1977, he started his career in insurance and operated his own Allstate agency for 42 years.

He married Connie Mankoff on Jan. 15, 1977, and built their family of three children, Steven, Jonathan and Adrienne.

“David created a lasting legacy for our family, friends and the community. He led by example and went out of his way to help others. He was my bashert. I am so honored to have been his wife, and already miss him terribly,” said Connie Suson.

Mr. Suson was passionate about Judaism and the Jewish community. He led family and youth services on Shabbat and assitsted the rabbis on the bimah during High Holiday services at BMH-BJ for many years. He also served on the board of that congregation before serving as president, 2003-2005. BMH-BJ honored the Suson family at its annual event in 2008.

Mr. Suson also served on the boards of Herzl Jewish Day School and RMHA.

He helped found Boy Scout Troop 700 and Cub Scout Pack 700.

For 14 years, starting in 2004, Mr. Suson devoted himself to daily Talmud study as a Daf Yomi participant. He became a regular davener at Kehilas Bais Yisrael.

Mr. Suson enjoyed sports, particularly bowling, golf and softball. He started bowling as a young boy and went on to excel in the sport. He bowled four perfect 300-point games in his adulthood. He was an active bowler in the Denver Jewish Bowling League.

League secretary Sheldon Spiegelman said that David Suson broke and held records in every category in the league. He competed in several national bowling tournaments. On the Thursday night before he became ill, he bowled a 759 series in the league.

He also played in the Denver Jewish Softball League.

Mr. Suson is survived by his wife Connie Mankoff Suson; children Rabbi Steven (the late Rachel Adisy Suson), Jonathan (Kristin) Suson and Adrienne Suson; sisters Shellie Suson, Lori (Joe) Capps, Tammy (Steve Crane) Kaitz and Lori (Joe) Contreras and brother Jerry Kaitz; step-mother Barbara Suson; and grandchildren Mara Suson, Daniel Suson and Ellie Suson.

He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Rachel Adisy Suson.

The family suggests memorial contributions to BMH-BJ, Kehilas Bais Yisrael or the charity of choice.
