David J. Cole, a longtime Denver community activist and local government consultant, passed away Oct. 30, 2015, in Denver. Rabbi Steven Peskind officated at the private service at Golden Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
A memorial service was held Nov. 4, 3 p.m., at The Studio Loft, part of the Denver Performing Arts Complex.
The owner of and principal of David J. Cole & Associates, Mr. Cole was a dynamic figure in Denver politics for over 30 years.
He received the Denver Urban Leagues Whitney M. Young Jr. Award in September of this year.
“An incredible force in lobbying, he engineered some of the most important public policy initiatives and campaigns that led to the renewal and success of Denver,” the family said.
“He was a pillar of the community and gave his heart and soul to Denver, which wouldn’t be what it is today without him.”
Mr. Cole was born June 17, 1946, in Chicago. He came to Denver at the age of seven.
In addition to his impact on Denvers diverse community, Mr. Cole was active in such nonprofit organizations as Del Norte Neighborhood Development Corp., Father Woodys Haven of Hope, the Lodo District, Lower Downtown Neighborhood Assn., the Denver Preschool Program and Friends of Denver Firefighters.
Although his health had been declining for some time, his unexpected death left family and friends grief-stricken.
Mr. Cole is survived by sons Todd Cole and Lee Cole; daughters-in-law Matilda Cole and Sandra Cole; granddaughters Lily, Leila and Lucy Cole, and grandsons River Cole and Ryan Cole.
