Dave Wofsey

Dave Wofsey, known as “Sparky” for his Sonic Spark invention, passed away Jan. 11, 2019, in Golden, Colo. He was 95. Rabbi Salomon Gruenwald officiated at the Jan. 16  service at the HEA. Interment followed at Golden Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

He was the owner and CEO of Denver-based Sonic Spark LLC, which manufactured high performance spark plugs, and worked on the production line until the age of 93.

An inventor and electronics engineer, Mr. Wofsey received the Purple Martin Award while employed at Martin Marietta.

He also worked as a union inspector for Gardner Denver.

A decorated combat veteran in WW II, Mr. Wofsey served as a radio operator and gunner in the 11th Armored Division. He fought in Belgium, France and Germany.

Mr. Wofsey regularly attended and gave speeches at rallies for Denver mass transit.

He chaired the Citizen’s Rapid Mass Transit committee.

A consultant providing scientific counsel for air pollution research until last year, he advocated the protection of natural foods, equal rights for the LGTBQ community and government investment in STEM training at economically underserved schools.

Mr. Wofsey is survived by his wife Flora; children Eden, Tammy and Mike; and grandchildren Lilly, Willow, Zack and Noa.
