Daniel Lowenstein
Daniel Lowenstein, a successful artist, muralist and scenery painter and son of the late Holocaust survivor and theater director Henry Lowenstein, passed away Aug. 15, 2019, in Denver from cancer of the esophagus.
Mr. Lowenstein, who was born in 1957 in Denver, grew up in the theater, where he learned how to how to build sets and worked as a stagehand in his youth.
He left GW in the mid-1970s prior to graduation and earned his diploma at an alternative school.
A talented artist, Mr. Lowenstein painted murals, created sculptures and illustrated several books.
“I was always impressed by his dedication and earnest commitment,” author Phil Goodstein said of the man who illustrated several of his books.
“I greatly appreciated his art skills, especially his willingness and ability to take the poor originals I gave him of people and turn them into works of art.”
Advocating for those he felt were unfairly treated, Mr. Lowenstein could frequently be found at demonstrations with a sign that was a work of art in its own right.
Mr. Lowenstein is survived by his wife Kathy, who was his companion in his many campaigns to create a better world.
