Alan Gross went to Cuba to use the Internet — and was arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned. That’s the long and short of it. For him to use the Internet in Cuba was a crime. Oh, and did we say that he used the Internet to help parts of the Jewish community connect to one another? There was no espionage, no criminality, no pornography — just a nice man trying to help a Jewish community. Oh, and did we mention, he was working for the US State Dept. when he did this?
It is high time that the US do more to get Gross out of jail than issue statements. He is languishing there. He is sick. His family is sick. The whole situation is sick. It’s communism at work. And, on a different level, it is the US at work — indifferently at work. Gross, need we mention, is an American citizen. The US is supposed to take care of its citizens, especially when they’re on a government mission.
It is time for President Obama to get involved, and for some stick — some sanctions — against Cuba. Enough is enough.
