The awards ceremony will take place Monday, Dec. 22, 2 p.m. in the lobby of Children’’s Hospital Colorado, where the winning entries have been on display since they were announced and published in the IJN’’s Dec. 12 Chanukah edition.

A Colorado Rockies original and one of the most popular players in franchise history, Vinny Castilla is a now a special assistant for the Rockies’ coaching staff.

Castilla, selected by the Rockies in the 1992 expansion draft, was an All-Star twice in his first eight seasons with the organization.

He was one of the National League’s most productive hitters over a five-year span, 1995-1999. He averaged 183 hits, 38 home runs and 112 RBIs per season.

He played in 98% of Colorado’s games over those five years and is still the only Rockie to start all 162 games in a single season, in 1998.

Castilla joins Todd Helton as the only players in the Rockies’ history with six seasons of 30 or more home runs.

Castilla left the Rockies in 2000 but returned to Denver in mid-August, 2006 and finished his career with the Rockies.

Dinger is the purple dinosaur who keeps the spirit going at Rockies home games at Coors Field.

Time permitting, Castilla and Dinger will also visit patients at Children’s Hospital following the awards ceremony.

“”We appreciate the hospitality shown by Children’s Hospital Colorado over the past several years,” said IJN Executive Editor Rabbi Hillel Goldberg.

““We enthusiastically welcome the participation by the Colorado Rockies in what is always a festive ceremony honoring the young artists.””

The Children’’s Hospital Colorado’s and Colorado Rockies’ support of the IJN’s coloring contest was initiated by IJN Account Executive Lori Aron.

The contest is organized by Associate Editor Larry Hankin and Office Manager Carol Coen.
