“How to count to 500?” Maya Bajayo asks plaintively, rhetorically, to the crowd gathered at Washington Park last Sunday. It was day 506 since Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas murdered at least 1,200 people in Israel and took 250 people hostage. For 67 consecutive weeks, the Denver group of Run For Their Lives, started by Bajayo in November, 2023, has been meeting every Sunday, rain or shine, to raise awareness for the hostages held in Gaza.
