Burt Dunevitz
Burt Dunevitz, a college instructor and volunteer, passed away January 23, 2018, in Lakewood. He was 85. Rabbi Kim Harris officiated at the Jan. 28 service held at Feldman Chapel. Interment followed at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, and a reception took place at Brookdale Westland Meridian. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“Burt will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, love of family and intellect,” the family said. “His greatest passion was for his family, especially his cherished grandchildren.”
Mr. Dunevitz was born Jan. 4, 1933 and grew up in Denver, which he always considered his home.
He graduated CU-Boulder, where he met Barbara Shapiro, who became his wife of 64 years.
In 1957, the family moved to Omaha where Mr. Dunevitz was employed as a physical therapist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
After obtaining his MA in psychology, he taught at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
Four years later, the family moved to Miami, where Mr. Dunevitz earned a PhD in education while teaching at Florida International University.
“He took great joy in teaching and was a mentor and inspiration to his students,” the family said.
Mr. and Mrs. Dunevitz returned to Denver in 2000 to be close to family and friends.
Mr. Dunevitz loved music, travel, theater, books, gardening, stamp and coin collecting.
An avid volunteer, he worked in the mail room at Littleton Adventist Hospital, ushered at the Town Hall Arts Center and led tours at Chatfield Arboretum.
He also went on many volunteer missions to Israel.
Mr. Dunevitz is survived by his wife Barbara Dunevitz; children Hannah, Teri and Jeff; grandchildren Danielle, Jonathan, Zachary, Max, Elizabeth, Collin, Danger and Crystal; and great-grandchildren Owen and Isabel.
