Bruce Goldner

Bruce Goldner, owner of a grocery on Denver’s West Side for 13 years who was known for his chesed to those in need, died at age 71, in Lakewood, NJ.

“My father always greeted people with an affectionate, ‘How are ya?’” his daughter Alana Mutterperl said.

“This genuine interest and simple concern for his fellow man extended to Jews and non-Jew alike and made a lasting impression on everyone.”

Mr. Goldner was born in the Bronx, the only child of the late Al and Pearl Goldner.

He attended Yeshiva University and later joined the National Guard, which sent him to Fort Sam Houston in Texas.

Mr. Goldner met his wife Jeanne in San Antonio. They lived in Manhattan for two years and returned to San Antonio, where they raised their four children.

One of only two Orthodox Jewish families that lived in the city, the Goldners were often asked to host visitors to San Antonio over Shabbat.

Mr. Goldner served as the local shul’s gabbai and as a fundraiser. He also helped raise money for San Antonio’s Jewish day school.

The family decided to move to Denver to ensure that their children received a proper Jewish education.

Mr. Goldner and his wife relocated to Lakewood in 1995 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Jeanne Goldner; children Alana Mutterperl, Alisa Glatzer, Doniel Goldner, Avi Goldner and their spouses; and his grandchildren.
