Bostoner Rebbe to visit the Denver Jewish community

Rabbi Mayer HorowitzGrand Rabbi Mayer Alter Horowitz, the Bostoner Rebbe of Jerusalem, will visit Denver Jan. 23-27, visiting congregations, schools and individuals.

On Thursday and Friday, Jan. 24-25, the rebbe is scheduled to visit DAT, Denver Jewish Day School and Hillel Academy on the East side.

On Thursday night, Jan. 24, the Rebbe is scheduled to speak at Merkaz Torah V’Chesed, 295 S. Locust.

He will spend Shabbos, Jan. 25-26, with Congregation Zera Avraham on the West Side of Denver.

A melaveh malka is tentatively scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the East Side Kosher Deli, Jan. 26.

He will meet students and parents at The Jewish Experience on Sunday morning, and will speak at EDOS, 5 p.m., Jan. 27.

The rebbe will be available by appointment on Sunday afternoon and evening, Jan. 27, at the home of Robert and Dr. Gail Kirshbaum, 6630 East Exposition Ave.

The rebbe is American-born and fluent in English, Hebrew and Yiddish.

The rebbe was born in Boston, Mass., in 1946. In 1963 he began his advanced Torah studies at the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, where he was ordained, and continued his studies at the Lakewood Yeshiva, NJ, until 1969.

In 1970, he assisted his father, the late Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Horowitz, establish Kollel Boston in Jerusalem.

Since that time he has founded numerous Jewish institutions in the US and Israel, including Yeshiva Machzikei Torah (Boston), the Lionel Goldman Seminary (Boston), ROFEH International (Boston), Gan Torah (Boston), Torah Academy Elementary School (Boston), Mevo Yerushalayim Seminary (Jerusalem), Talmud Torah Boston (Jerusalem) and Boston Beitar Synagogue (Beitar, Israel).

He was also instrumental in founding the Bostoner synagogue in Har Nof, Jerusalem, in 1984.

The rebbe is also one of five members of the board of rabbis of a national educational system, Chinuch Atzma’i.

In 1989, the rebbe made aliyah to Israel and became involved in Agudas Israel and in Torah communities for English-speaking immigrants.

In 2006, he founded Machon HaNesher HaGadol to publish Maimondies’ code, Mishnah Torah, with analyses and sources. Ten volumes have appeared.

In 2009, after the passing of his father, Grand Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Horowitz, he was designated to be the successor of his father in Israel.

In the footsteps of his father, the Rebbe travels to Jewish communities in Israel, Europe and North America to introduce those communities to the Boston-style of chassidus life and outreach.

His late father came to Denver in January, 1986, visiting EDOS, Yeshiva Toras Chaim, Hillel Academy, St. Joseph Hospital and individuals from Denver and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
