Bettie Steinberg, a native of Ft. Collins and a beloved member of B’nai Havurah, passed away April 17, 2016. Rabbi Evette Luttman officiated at the April 21 graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Before her death, Bettie said she wanted people to know that she loved her family, and that her children and grandchildren were the light of her life.
Bettie was born in 1923 in Ft. Collins. She was the fifth child of Polish parents who immigrated to the US in the early 1900s.
She graduated high school in Carlsbad, NM, where she also worked at her sister Shirley’s store, The New Mexico Indian Trading Post.
In 1941, she moved with her family to Denver, attended secretarial school and began her career as a secretary.
Bettie’s father and future father-in-law arranged for Bettie to meet Alvin Steinberg in 1949. It was a perfect match, and the couple married later that year.
They were together for 65 years, until Mr. Steinberg’s passing on Nov. 12, 2016.
Bettie worked as executive assistant to the doctors in the dental school and pediatric neurology unit at the CU Medical Center for more than 20 years.
She survived three bouts with cancer through sheer effort and desire, the family said.
After her husband died, Bettie found herself alone at age 92.
She took charge of her life and moved to an apartment in a senior community where she didn’t have to cook or clean and would be around other people.
Bettie made friends and demonstrated remarkable strength, the family said.
She was faced with hard challenges after a fall resulted in multiple broken ribs.
“She lived with grace and died the same way,” her family said. “She was a woman of valor, of love and substance who will be missed by those she knew well, those she touched and those who love her.”
Bettie Steinberg is survived by her children Elenn (Eric) Steinberg and Joe (Fai-Lee) Steinberg; and grandchildren Rachel and Sam Steinberg.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter Shauna Steinberg.
