Bessie Rebecca Goldstein, recipient of Shalom Cares 2015 Volunteer of the Year Award, passed away Sept. 14, 2015, in Aurora. Rabbis Bernard Gerson and Steven Rubenstein and Cantor Saul Rosenthal officiated at the Sept. 17 graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“She was loved by all who knew her,” the family said. ”Her greatest joy was her beloved husband Harry of 59 years, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”
Mrs. Goldstein was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Hazelton, Pa., and graduated from Hazelton High School.
On. Oct. 19, 1941, she married Harry L. Goldstein. Mr. Goldstein passed away on July 31, 2001.
Mrs. Goldstein worked as a retail sales clerk at the Kiddee Shoppe in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Active in Wilkes-Barres Jewish community, she belonged to the Ohav Zedek Synagogue Sisterhood and Ladies Talmud Torah Auxiliary.
She moved to Aurora in 2000 and resided in an independent living apartment at Shalom Cares, where she was a devoted volunteer for 15 years.
Mrs. Goldstein is survived by her children Mindy (Jay) Rabinowitz of Aurora and Mark (Arlene) Goldstein of Sharon, Mass.; grandchildren Michael (Lauren) Goldstein, Jason (Sherrie) Goldstein, Lindsey Rabinowitz and Eric (Megan Gray) Rabinowitz; and great-grandchildren Carly, Gabby and Harper Goldstein.
