Bernice Tarlie

Bernice M. Tarlie, a beloved librarian in Denver’s Jewish community for many years, passed away Nov. 17, 2019, in Denver. Rabbi Yaakov Chaitovsky officiated at the Nov. 19 service at BMH-BJ. Interment followed at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“She took a lot of interest in everything Jewish,” says her husband Anschel Tarlie.

Mrs. Tarlie was born Jan. 13, 1940, in Johannesburg, South Africa. She graduated from the University of Cape Town and the University of Witwatersrand.

She married Anschel Tarlie in 1960.

The couple arrived in the US in 1977.

They lived in Miami for two years before moving to Denver in September, 1979.

Mrs. Tarlie, who earned an MA in library science in 1983 from DU, first worked as a librarian at Herzl Jewish Day School for two years.

She then joined CAJE as head librarian, a position she held for 17 years.

A member of Hadassah and Welcome Colorado, Mrs. Tarlie was deeply committed to AIPAC and the ADL.

She was a regular at JAAMM Fest and the Jewish Film Festival.

Bernice Tarlie is survived by her husband Anschel Tarlie; children Martin (Cecile), Lisa (Kent) and Ian (Fran); and grandchildren Jordyn, Cooper, William, Steven and Michael.
