Mrs. Schmermans cousin Rabbi Jordan Friedman officiated at the April 12 graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
She was an eclectic, extroverted woman with a keen sense of the world around her, the family said. A great conversationalist, she could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, yet she also was an attentive listener.
Blessed with a gracious heart and ceaseless curiosity, she was compassionate, generous, and extremely proud of her large familys accomplishments.
Bebe was born Feb. 2, 1935, in Denver to Molly Winograd Berkowitz and Emil Berkowitz.
She graduated East High and attended the University of Miami.
She married Jerry Schmerman on Oct. 12, 1958, and moved to Colorado Springs. They were together almost 30 years.
An active member of the Colorado Springs Jewish community, Mrs. Schmerman was on several boards at Temple Shalom.
She also belonged to the Colorado Springs chapter of Hadassah.
A volunteer companion for senior citizens, she was an avid reader who was very interested in politics and current events.
Mrs. Schmerman is survived by her children Lisa Meer and Richard (Amy) Schmerman; sisters Maureen Waldbaum, Eleanor Shidler, Harriet (Jerry) Feld, Dena (Frank) Schneider, and brother Stephen (Sandy) Berkowitz; and grandchildren Jordan, Aaron and Ethan Meer.
