Bernice Dinner

Bernice Dinner, the founder of Hear Now and past president of Beth Joseph, passed away June 2, 2020, in Denver. Rabbis Yaakov Chaitovsky and Steven Foster and Cantor Martin Goldstein officiated at the private graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial is scheduled at a later date. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“While much of Bernice’s professional life was dedicated to helping those with developmental and other disabilities, her greatest joy was found in the achievements of her children and grandchildren, and traveling with them throughout the world,” the family said.

Marie Bernice Myers Dinner was born on March 3, 1947, in Bolton (Manchester) England to Philip and Sara Myers. She moved with her family moved to Sydney, Australia, where her aunts and uncles had emigrated.

The Myers family moved to Albuquerque, NM, in 1958.

In 1965, Mrs. Dinner enrolled at the University of Nebraska, where she met her future husband Bruce Dinner. They married in June, 1967.

The couple returned to the Denver area in 1970.

Mrs. Dinner, who earned a BA and an MA from DU, received a PhD in communication disorders in 1981 at CU.

An audiologist at National Jewish Health and Rose Medical Center, she founded the national nonprofit Hear Now, which provides hearing aids and cochlear implants to people unable to afford them, in 1990.

President of the Health and Medical Research Charities of America and Beth Joseph, she belonged to JFS, Hadassah and NCJW.

The Dinners lived in Franconia, New Hampshire, from 2003 to 2010 to be close to their daughter and grandchildren. During this time, Mrs. Dinner worked at Littleton (NH) Regional Hospital and was president of Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation.

The couple traveled extensively, most recently to South Africa.

Bernice Dinner is survived by her husband Bruce Dinner; children Alec (Inbal Etgar) Dinner and Tara (Larry) Kaplan; grandchildren Miles Dinner and Teva, Raya, and Jonah Kaplan; and sisters Heather (Steven) Bossin and Stephanie (the late Morris) Schur.
