Berenice Engleberg

Berenice EnglebergBerenice Engleberg, the mother of David Engleberg, passed away June 29, 2010, at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was 94. The graveside service was held July 1 at Montefiore Cemetery.

Berenice, affectionately known as Bubu by her grandchildren, was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Malad, Ohio, to the late Sam and Annie Matz.

The family moved to Magna, Utah, where she graduated from Cypress High School.


Berenice received her BS and MSW degree from the University of Utah.

In 1944, she married Ben Engleberg. Mr. Engleberg predeceased his wife.

Berenice worked as a social worker for the state of Utah for 35 years.

An active member of the Salt Lake Jewish community, she belonged to Kol Ami Synagogue, the JCC and many other organizations.

A voracious reader, she also enjoyed piano, ballet, symphony and opera.

Berenice is survived by her son David (Charlene) Engleberg of Denver; four grandchildren, Rachel (Yuval) Moskovich, Rebecca Garbawi, Leah and Louis Engleberg; and three great-grandchildren, Tamar and Naomi Moskovich and Benjamin Garbawi.
