Aurora has the right idea

Aurora City Council, at the behest of Mayor Mike Coffman, is working on a plan for a campus to house and provide social services for the homeless in Colorado’s third largest city.

The campus, proposed for East 32nd Ave. and Chambers Rd., would include a nagivation center, seven-day emergency housing, transitional housing as well case management, mental health services and workforce development.

Finally, an answer to the insidious homeless encampments which are nothing but a blight on the city and a danger to all, including their inhabitants and those living or working nearby and even passing by. This could eliminate urban camping in Aurora, but also could drive the homeless who decline to go to the new campus out of Aurora and into its neighboring cities and counties.

It would behoove surrounding jurisdictions — Denver, Douglas and Adams counties — to join Aurora as partners or emulators, not only to avoid more homeless encampments in their communities but to present a unified front in addressing the scourge of homelessness.
