Arthur Feldman, beloved husband and father, passed away at home on Jan. 4, 2015, in Denver. He was 83. Rabbi Steven Foster and Cantor Elizabeth Sacks officiated at the Jan. 6 service at Temple Emanuel. Interment followed at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Mr. Feldman was born April 6, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo., to Samuel and Sadie Feldman.
He earned a BA from Washington University in St. Louis. In the 1950s, he received an MA and a PhD from the University of Illinois in civil engineering.
He married Lee Gallup in 1953.
In 1961, Mr. and Mrs. Feldman and their baby daughter Amy moved to Denver, where he was offered an associate professorship in DUs engineering department.
After teaching at DU, Mr. Feldman went to work for Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) and retired in 1999 after 36 years with the company.
During his career, he designed and built the lunar drill stems used during the Apollo moon missions for NASA.
Mr. Feldmans accomplishments are displayed at the Smithsonian Institution Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC, and the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
He was published in engineering magazines and belonged to a number of engineering societies including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Society of Experimental Mechanics, Sigma Xi and Tau Beta Pi.
A classical music enthusiast, Mr. Feldman was an accomplished violin player. He played in many symphonies in St. Louis, Illinois and Denver.
Mr. Feldman belonged to the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra for over 15 years and served on the board. He played in ECOs most recent concert in November, 2014.
Arthur Feldman is survived by his wife Lee Gallup Feldman; daughter Amy Feldman; granddaughters Michaela and Arielle Finkelstein, all of Denver; sister Jean Dubman and brother-in-law Allan (Ruth) Gallup of St. Louis, Mo.
