Arnold Arnie Alan Hayutin, a respected pharmacist and community leader who touched many lives, passed away March 14, 2015, in Denver. Rabbi Yaakov Chaitovsky officiated at the March 16 service at BMH-BJ.
Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery, where his dear friend Sam Burger chanted the memorial prayer. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Close friend Richard Bard said in his eulogy that Arnie probably uttered ”How can I help you?” more than any other phrase in his lifetime.
Ben Hayutin, who spoke for the grandchildren at the service, said that his “Zayde was always willing to wait with the kids in endless amusement park lines or take long drives just to get ice cream cones.”
”Arnie was deeply committed to his wife Phyllis and his family, his work as a pharmacist, his synagogue and his cherished classic cars,” his loved ones said.
Mr. Hayutin was born Oct. 26, 1936, in Denver. He grew up on the West Side and attended Cheltenham Elementary, Lake Junior and North High.
He graduated CU with a degree in pharmacy.
Mr. Hayutin married Phyllis Weinberg on June 10, 1958. An inseparable couple, friends referred to them as Arnie and Phyllis or Phyllis and Arnie.
During his 55-year career as a pharmacist, he owned and or operated 10 stores including Yale Pharmacy, The Drugstore (23 years), the Prescription Store in Aurora and Midtown Pharmacy.
Mr. Hayutin directed his boundless energy into serving many organizations.
He was the Arapahoe County planning commissioner for 13 years; president of the Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society; and a member of the CU School of Pharmacys advisory board.
Past president of the Beth Joseph Mens Club, he was on the boards of Beth Joseph and BMH-BJ.
Mr. Hayutin is survived by his wife Phyllis Hayutin of Denver; children David (Teresa) Hayutin, Karen (Charles) Reid and Stephen (Marnie) Hayutin; grandchildren Jessica and Marcus Hayutin, Zachary and Jack Reid, and Nina and Ben Hayutin; brother Sheldon (Joyce) Hayutin; and sisters-in-law Marlene (Murray) Altman and Sandra (Robert) Michelson and brother-in-law Stanley (Sharon) Kaplan.
