In principle, there is no difference between the ill begotten “arms for hostages” deal in the Reagan administration, 1981-1986, and the the “billions for hostages” deal in the Biden administration of 2023.
The primary commonality in the two deals is this: strengthening Iran.
Here is the convoluted scheme of the so-called Iran-Contra deal: The US would sell arms to Iran, then use the money to finance the Contra rebel group in Nicaragua, in hopes that Iran — specifically its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — would pressure Hezbollah to free seven American hostages in Lebanon.
It was illegal to sell arms to Iran. It was illegal to fund the Contras. But it was of overriding importance to free the American hostages — so ran the logic in the Reagan era.
So it is today: The overriding concern is to free the American hostages in Iran, no matter how lopsided the ransom deal and, more to the point, no matter how much the deal strengthens Iran — specifically, its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The IRGC is the prime Iranian mover behind the terrorists attacks on Israel from Gaza. The IRGC is the prime Iranian mover behind Iran’s murder of some 500 protesters and the arrest, rape and torture of some 20,000 Iranian dissidents in the Evin prison.
The IRGC is the end point of the $6,000,000,000 ransom.
Here is the prime motive for more Iranian hostage-taking. It is an extraordinarily lucrative business.
It is not limited to the Middle East. Wherever Iranian agents are active throughout the world, such as Europe and Latin America, the temptation to take American hostages will be dramatically boosted by Biden’s $6 billion deal.
And we haven’t even gotten to Iran’s nuclear pursuit. Six billion dollars will help!
And we haven’t even gotten to Ukraine. Six billion dollars will help Iran supply more drones to Russia.
And we haven’t even gotten to Iran’s missile program. Six billion dollars will help!
If you believe that that the $6,000,000,000 will go for “humanitarian” purposes, it would be advisable to double-check with the Obama administration officials who shipped $400,000,000 in cash to Iran, and inquire just where it ended up. Among other destinations, it ended up in repeated missile attacks from Gaza on southern Israeli civilians, in places like Sderot.
