**Update** Announcements made, and neither the US nor England will be hosting a World Cup. Instead it’ll be Russia (2018) and Qatar (2022). I guess it was all about the big bucks. Good luck to those who will have to play in 100°F heat in the desert. **End Update**
Former president Bill Clinton. British Prime Minister David Cameron. Soccer celebrity and heartthrob David Beckham. The newly engaged Prince William. Oscar winning actor Morgan Freeman. There’s a reason I’m listing all these names: These and other celebs are right now peppered across Zurich staying in different five star hotels.
FIFA, the governing body of international soccer, is headquartered here in Zurich and are announcing the host countries for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Among the candidates? England and America. So all the bigwigs have come down to plead their country’s case.
I just found out that about one hour ago, Becks and Wills were hanging out in a bar that’s literally around the corner from where I live. I’m talking less than a two minute walk. What a chump! Guess what I was doing when I could have been illicitly snapping pictures paparazzi style through foggy windows? Well, you know how they say that Judaism takes the fun out? I was elbow deep in grated potatoes and onions, preparing latkes for Chanukah tonight. What a loser!
There’s still tonight. Regardless of the outcome, there will either be celebratory parties or miserable, drown your sorrows get togethers, so perhaps there’s still time for my inner celebrity stalker to come out. But first, let me tell ya, I’ll make darn sure to enjoy those latkes!
