Dr. Pearl is the father of slain journalist Daniel Pearl and is the president of the Daniel Pearl Foundation.
Daniel Pearl, the South Asia Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal, was kidnapped by terrorists in Pakistan in January, 2002, while he was investigating a story.
He was murdered by his captors because he was an American and a Jew.
After Daniels death, his family formed the Daniel Pearl Foundation to continue Daniels life-work of dialogue and understanding and to address the root causes of his tragedy.
The Daniel Pearl Foundation sponsors public dialogues between Jews and Muslims to explore common ground and air grievances; creates journalism fellowships aimed at promoting honest reporting and East-West understanding; and organizes worldwide concerts that promote inter-cultural respect.
The foundation received Commongrounds Partners in Humanity Award in 2002 and the 2003 Roger E. Joseph Prize for its distinctive contribution to humanity.
Dr. Pearl and his wife Ruth are the co-editors of the anthology, I Am Jewish: Personal Reflections Inspired by the Last Words of Daniel Pearl.
He is a professor of computer science and the director of the Cognitive Systems Laboratory at UCLA.
Dr. Pearl is known for his contributions to artificial intelligence, human reasoning and philosophy of science.
Dr. Pearl will speak about Carving a Dialogue Between Muslims and Jews.
ADL will also honor Kenneth Feiler, president and CEO of Rose Medical Center, with ADLs Distinguished Community Service Award.
