Adi Lissauer, who served with the Haganah and the IDF, passed May 20, 2009, in Denver. Rabbi Selwyn Franklin and Cantor Isaac Koll officiated at the May 22 graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Adi was born with an enormous sweet tooth, says his daughter Miki Lior. He lived to satisfy his cravings, devouring ice cream, chocolate, marzipan, gummy bears, whip cream and Skittles.
Mr. Lissauer was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Berlin, Germany. A member of the youth aliyah movement in Germany, he went to Palestine in his late teens.
From 1939-1948, he served with the Jewish Brigade of the British Armed Forces, the Haganah and the IDF. He cleared mines for the Haganah because his hands were so steady, Miki says.
He married Lea Sonnenfeld Lissauer on Sept. 10, 1946, in Tel Aviv. Mrs. Lissauer passed away on Nov. 29, 1981.
Mr. Lissauer, a textile manufacturer, owned the Thermopatch company.
He moved to Denver in 1981.
As a member of the Israeli Rotary Club, Mr. Lissauer volunteered on kibbutzim on the weekends so kibbutzniks could enjoy some time off.
In Denver, he was a translator in the international division of the National Western Stock and co-directed volunteer services for the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
He also belonged to the City and County of Denvers Ombudsman for the Aging program.
Mr. Lissauer is survived by his daughters Edna (Steven) Berger of Jacksonville, Texas, and Miki Lior of Denver; brother Dr. Werner (Ruth) Lissauer of Denver and sister Inge Rosenfeld and family of Jerusalem.
He was predeceased by his son Uri Lissauer.
