Seventy years ago, almost to the day, some 33,000 Jews were murdered in Babi Yar, a ravine near Kiev.
The Babi Yar numbers are numbing equivalent to ten 9/11s in two days, or to 0.0055 percent of all Jews killed in the Holocaust.
The numbers rob the victims of
their humanity, even if they do put into some context, albeit not apprehensible, the atrocities of 9/11, the Holocaust or other genocides and terrorist killings.
The more important context is the lessons to take away: Never to for- get the victims. Always to ensure that such incomprehensible out- bursts of hatred never happen again.
