August 25, 2009, is the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of Denvers most remembered rabbis, the late Rabbi Manuel Laderman.
As the first full-time spiritual leader at the Hebrew Educational Alliance his only pulpit Rabbi Laderman made an impact on the hearts of many in the Jewish and wider community of Denver.
He is remembered as one of Denvers most respected voices, guiding the Jewish community with his compassion, class and intelligence.
Rabbi Laderman shaped the HEA, providing the foundation for what today is one of the communitys largest and most active congregations.
Rabbi Ladermans leadership spread well beyond the Jewish community. He strove to increase and improve relations between Jews and those of different faiths and, for years, he was head of the City of Denvers department of health and hospitals. His impact on Denver is memorialized in the Manual Laderman Trauma Center at Denver Health.
Coming to HEA in 1932, Rabbi Laderman served 42 years as its full-time rabbi, and continued to serve as rabbi emeritus until his death on Nov. 27, 1989. His wisdom and character find their impact on his former congregation to this very day.
