Link to…Colorado
It’s been a couple of weeks since Rocky Mountain Jew’s last “links to the world” post, but fear not! We’re still busy scouring media from around the globe, however this week, we hit upon an interesting tidbit from the Rocky Mountain region.
An article published in Vail Daily described a suspect in a series of break-in as of “Jewish or Eastern European descent.” Editor Matt Zalaznick replies with an apology, which makes for a fascinating read, hitting directly upon the complexity of defining terms such as “Jewish” or “Judaism.” Is it a race, religion, culture? Is it wrong to describe someone as looking Jewish - racial profiling - or is it simply a quick way for police to zero in on suspects?
What do you think? Should Vail Daily have been more careful in its wording? Or are people overly sensitive?

The article should not have run with the description of someone as “Jewish”, at the same time though, it’s not the biggest deal. Matt Zalaznick made the right move by apologizing. The Jewish community should accept it.
