Calling young students interested in business and entrepreneurship! A new overnight camp is looking for campers ready for work and play.
The Boulder JCC is introducing Camp Inc., which is focused on business and entrepreneurship, to be held at CU-Boulder’s campus and directed by Josh Pierce.
The Foundation for Jewish Camp received the grant to launch the incubator camps, funded by The Jim Joseph Foundation and the AVI CHAI foundation, giving $8 million over five years.
An incubator advisory committee selected four camps through a rigorous selection process, based on the camps’ ability to serve Jewish youth by catering to their specialized fields of interest.
The camps selected showed great potential in combining Jewish values with Jewish culture and a specific field of interest.
Along with Camp Inc. in Boulder, other camps selected were a science and technology camp in Boston, an East Coast-based health and wellness camp and a Maccabia sports camp in the San Francisco Bay area.
The new camps were launched with the intention of engaging Jewish youth ages 11-17 who wouldn’t normally be interested in Jewish camp.
“The selection committee looked for ideas that resonated in the secular world to attract children and teens that have traditionally rejected Jewish camp or would not return because it wasn’t doing something special for them,” said Michelle Friedman, director of new camp initiatives.”
The camps chosen all had a design that would interest a select group and compete with secular camp models while integrating Jewish values, education and Shabbat observance.
