Lucy Ginley, a longtime member of Beth Evergreen, passed away Sept. 5, 2017 after being hit by a car while riding her bicycle with family in Boulder. She was 64. Rabbi Jamie Arnold officiated at the Sept. 8 service at Beth Evergreen.

Burial followed at Evergreen Memorial Garden. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Mrs. Ginley, owner of EcoDesigns, competed in the 1974 Olympic trials, was passionate about renewable-sustainable energy and routinely plucked invasive plants while walking her dogs Skye and Logan.

“Few have loved plants, water features and rocks as much as Lucy,” the family said. “A walking compendium of native plant information, she experimented at her Evergreen home with outdoor and indoor ponds and 360 tons of boulders.”

Born in 1953 in Springfield, Ill., she met David Ginley in 1973 while kayaking the Arkansas River. They married in 1975 and started their new lives in Boston.

After moving to Albuquerque, NM, the couple had two children, Aimee and Art.

The family moved to Colorado in 1992.

Mrs. Ginley returned to school in 2003 at age 50, earned a landscape architecture degree at CU and founded EcoDesigns, which embodied her love of plants and art.

Active in the Evergreen Garden Club, her book club and the Loveland Ski Patrol, Mrs. Ginley loved traveling. One of her greatest pleasures was taking the extended family on trips to Africa, Mexico, Hawaii and other destinations.

“She was always willing to try to new things,” her family said, “which was infectious for all of us.”

Mrs. Ginley adored her children and grandchildren. Together they baked cookies, tie-dyed, hiked and played in the ocean. She also took her grandchildren skiing for the first time.

“Her love of life was huge, and she showed it at every turn,” the family said.

Mrs. Ginley is survived by her husband David; sister Pat; son Arthur (Luda) and daughter Aimee (Steve); and grandchildren Jason and Alex.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Evergreen Garden Club, PO Box 1392, Evergreen, CO 80437 or www.evergreengardenclub.org/donate.
