The Mask Project

OVER the years I think I passed it now and then. But I never actually stopped and looked. I was vaguely aware of some art show taking place in Cherry Creek, but that was it.

This time was no different. I was walking quickly in Cherry Creek Mall, goal-oriented, aiming to reach a particular store just to pick one specific item up. Suddenly, whizzing by in his wheelchair is the cutest little kid, shouting and gesticulating in great excitement to his parents and siblings who are accompanying him, “Here is my mask! Here is my mask!”

My curiosity was aroused. This little boy’s enthusiasm was contagious. I was simply mesmerized by his joyousness.

Special occasion

EVERY season has its inviting magic. Each year, as a season rolls around again, I embrace it for its qualities or dimensions I love. Many people detest winter, but no, oh no! not me! I am a Colorado girl through and through. Snow? That white starry sparkly fairy dust? I am in love with it. Simply intoxicated by it.

This past Pesach, just as the holiday ended and I was putting my adorable nephew to sleep, I hugged him. I told him I had the most wonderful week together and how much I was going to miss him. It had been perfect.

The one and only thing more I could have wished for, I mused aloud, was for it to have snowed. I had visions of building him a “snofa” throne to sit on, plus preparing for him kosher-for-Passover snow ice cream! Oh well, it had been such a special Pesach! We talked and read a bedtime story. I kissed him g’night.

Obama, Israel and the Genesis prediction

MOST observers, right or left, pro-Israel or anti-Israel, would agree that Israeli-American relations are the worst in memory.

Among the many indications is that only 9% of Jewish Israelis think President Barack Obama’s administration is more pro-Israel than pro-Palestinian, according to a Smith Research poll taken during the last week of March on behalf of the Jerusalem Post.

Given how much Israelis love and admire (and emigrate to) America, this level of mistrust is all the more remarkable.

Commentators on the left, of course, blame Israel. For them, this is a no-brainer; blaming Israel is as natural as breathing. Further, Israel is headed by a conservative prime minister and America is presided over by the most pro-left president in its history.

Herb Keinon: Obama's misreadings of the Mideast

WHATEVER your political preference, there is no denying that peace efforts in the Middle East are not going well. People will differ why, but the facts are clear. No negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians are underway; no plan, at least made public, exists to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

One person perhaps uniquely perched to analyze these facts is Herb Keinon, diplomatic correspondent of the Jerusalem Post. Last week he visited family in Denver and addressed EDOS.

This is what he said.

Creamsicle of my dreamsicle

ONE mellow Friday evening a little while back, right after candle lighting, I was taking a walk. It was still a wintry and snowy time, but on that particular evening there was an elusive sense of spring in the air. I was walking back home with a sense of purpose when suddenly I heard a familiar sound in the distance. A lovely sing song sound floating on the air giving me an immediate sense of sonorous pleasure. Could it be? And in March?

I hadn’t heard this delightful chime in quite a few years. But there it was coming closer and closer, louder and louder. It was unmistakable, the metallic, tinny, bell-like high note sound of the wind-up music chime box coming out of a megaphone speaker. The sound of the ice cream truck jingle-tinkle.
