I. Bernard “Bernie” Munishor, a native Denverite and decorated WW II veteran, passed away Oct. 2, 2016, at the age of 94. Rabbi Jeffrey Kaye officiated at the Oct. 5 graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Bernie was the son of a pioneering Colorado Jewish family on his mother Anne Kletzky Munishor’s side. His maternal grandparents were among the founders of Temple Emanuel in Pueblo.

His father, Philip Munishor, was a Jewish immigrant from Romania.

Bernie was raised in the Park Hill neighborhood and attended Park Hill Elementary, Gove Junior High and East High School.

At East, he was Denver City Junior Doubles Champion and was undefeated while he was a student there.

Shortly after graduation, he spent a brief time living in Los Angeles and was drafted into the US Army.

Bernie served in WW II with the 334th Infantry Division for more than three years.

For six months he was in the European Campaign, for which he received a number of medals including a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.

Bernie’s unit liberated a labor camp in Germany. The horrors he witnessed moved him to write a letter to his father that was so articulate it was read at the Governor’s Holocaust Remembrance Program in Denver half a century later.

After the army, he entered DU and graduated with a BS in business administration.

He lettered in varsity tennis and was undefeated at DU.

Bernie passed the CPA exam and launched a career that spanned close to 60 years. The founder and managing partner of a number of CPA firms, he also was a CFO for corporations.

“Bernie was loved and respected by hundreds of clients of all types throughout the Denver area,” his family said.

Passionate about tennis, he continued playing the sport in his adulthood.

Bernie spent much of his leisure time playing tennis at the Denver Tennis Club, where he also served as an officer, a director and club treasurer.

He enjoyed a successful tennis career well into his senior years.

Bernie Munishor is survived by Leba Munishor, his loving wife of 64 years; son Philip and daughter-in-law Marcie Munishor; and grandchildren Hava Munishor and Yael (Netanel) Weinstein.
