National Council of Jewish Women, Colorado section, will install Charlene Spiegelman as president for the 2008-2009 year.
Spiegelman has a degree in community services development and worked for the Dept. of Defense as program director at the Community Recreation Center on the former Lowry Air Force Base.
She has served as president of the Aurora Artists Guild for the past six years, and has been active in Hadassah as well as NCJW.
The installation, Wednesday, May 28, will feature Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives Andrew Romanoff, who will discuss, “Successes of the 2008 Legislative Session,” preceded by lunch.
Romanoff is the first Democratic Speaker of the House since 1975.
He served his fourth term for House District 6 and is chair of the executive committee of the Legislative Council.
He is the youngest recipient of the William M. Bulger Excellence in State Legislative Leadership Award, the highest NCJW award bestowed upon state legislative leaders.
He steered 25 bills through the Republican-controlled house in his first two terms, including laws that expand the supply of affordable housing, provide treatment for substance abuse and mental illness and protect the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
In the legislature’s off-season, Romanoff teaches political science at the Community College of Aurora.
NCJW executive board members include vice presidents Cindi Coleman, Beverly Rich, Yvonne Roodberg and Rhoda Weinstein.
The elected board includes Mimi Barnard, Bernice Coggan, Joan Lander, Sandy Mann, Barbara Nieder, Helen Schulman, Evelyn Shafner and Beverly Zagon.
